The Rose Hamilton Literacy Program has adopted the Indiana Reading Framework. This framework focuses on reading goals, large and small group instruction and assessment. Rose Hamilton utilizes Response to Instruction (RTI) groups (daily small group instruction) to help students in need of more intensive instruction. |
Our kindergarten uses the Early Intervention for School Success (EISS), a nationally validated program to screen our kindergarten students. The screening instruments identify basic academic skills in five modalities. These modalities are motor coordination – gross, motor coordination – fine, developmental skills – auditory, language and visual. After screening, areas that are found to be weak are worked on by our EISS trained paraprofessionals under the guidance of our teachers. In our first grade, Rose Hamilton has two certified Reading Recovery teachers who work one-on-one each day with identified first grade students who need additional help with reading and writing instruction. Reading Recovery is a highly effective short-term intervention of one-to-one tutoring for low-achieving first graders. |
